Sultan Al Qasimi Inaugurates Sharjah 2017 Stamp Exhibition At Mega Mall

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Council, opened the Sharjah 2017 Stamp Exhibition, organized by Emirates Philatelic Association in cooperation with Mega Mall on Tuesday morning. 17 countries participated in this year’s exhibition, including stamp and coin dealers and exhibitors.

The opening ceremony, which took place from 14th to 18th of November at Mega Mall, was attended by Abdullah Khoury, President of the Emirates Philatelic Association and a large number of coin and stamp collectors and specialists in this field as well as media representatives.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi stated that the Sharjah Stamp Exhibition is an important cultural and artistic platform for those who wish to see the great historical value of the stamps, which chronicles the great figures and event of the different countries around the globe.

The exhibition contributes to enhancing the position of the Emirate of Sharjah in hosting and organizing high quality exhibitions, which attracts specialized visitors, he added.

This exhibition, which has become one of the region’s most important exhibitions, unites collectors, hobbyists and vendors of rare stamps, coins and paper currencies from the UAE and abroad.

Mohammed Sorour, Marketing Manager of Mega Mall, stated: “We are pleased to host the Sharjah Stamp Exhibition again, which has become the highlight of the annual events organized by the mall in order to to promote tourism and commercial activity in Sharjah, and attract more visitors to Mega Mall, especially since the exhibition attracts a large audience of fans and collectors of stamps and ancient coins.”

The exhibition includes 120 platform displays, divided into 46 different themes, according to the interests of the exhibitors and the type and quality of their exhibits. The exhibition will include many events, including lectures titled “Iraqi financial and postage stamps,” and“Save Palestine: 1948-1951,” as well as a public auction on stamps and rare coins.

The Sharjah 2017 Stamp Exhibition contains extensive collections of unique stamps, with some being over a 100 years old. The exhibition will also include rare stamps that currently have limited copies, as well as collections from certain geographical areas, such as the UAE, the GCC, and the Levant.

A selection of international arbitrators, coordinators, and experts, who are visiting Sharjah in order to participate in the exhibition, will judge the works of the exhibition, which include evaluating the collections of stamps offered for sale. There will also be events held for children in order to encourage them to start collecting stamps.

Postage stamps are characterized by their ability to chronicle events during different periods of time. They also review the chronology of significant events in countries all over the world and document the most prominent characters, landmarks, achievements and events of the countries that produce them. Stamps are also a hobby and a trade for millions of people around the world.
