Will Sudan Witness a Counter Coup?

Dubai – Masaader News

Sudan’s opposition leader and head of Umma Party Sadiq al-Mahdi said Sudan may witness a counter coup if the military council and the opposition did not agree on handing over power to civilians, according to an interview with Reuters.

“The hardline wings of the National Congress Party, which the ousted President Omar Hassan al-Bashir belonged to, may try with its allies in the army to exploit the uncertainty condition to seize power.” Al- Mahdi said.

Al-Mahdi said he believed the military council would hand over power to the civilians if the current impasse was overcome.

“I think that the military leaders, who overthrew Bashir and formed a transitional military council, have good intentions, and they are not interested in forming a military government,” he confirmed.
