The U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis arrived in Egypt today, aiming to Washington’s warming of relations with Cairo during the Trump administration’s first 100 days.
The visit came as the latest leg of a regional tour, as ties with Egypt continue to warm under President Donald Trump.
Mattis will meet with the Egyptian Defense Minister Sedki Sobhy and President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, whose White House visit earlier this month.

It said Mattis would “reaffirm key U.S. military alliances,” and “discuss cooperative effort to counter destabilizing activities and defeat extremist terror organizations” during the April 18-23 tour. In Israel, he will hold talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the statement said.
