The Annual International Conference at Ain Shams University Discusses “AI Journalism”

It’s expected that the annual international conference of Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, will discuss a research paper by the Media expert Mohamed Abdulzaher on “Artificial Intelligence Journalism “AI Journalism” and the Impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the Structure of Media”, a new thesis in international Media research, and it has not mentioned before in Arabic studies.

Prof. Dr. Suzan Elkalliny, Dean of Faculty of Arts, and Media Professor says: “This year’s conference is an extension of the successes we have achieved during the previous sessions, the conference focuses on the role of Media in the development of Arab societies, this year’s conference addresses an important new angle on the role of media in improving and manufacturing the soft power of the state. We have dozens of researches, researchers and students with more than 10 Arab universities and organizations”.

Dr. Suzan added that the conference tackles an important focus on the role of technology and mobile applications in enhancing the soft power of countries by applying to the government of the UAE, as well as a workshop on the term “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Journalism“ which is coined by researcher Mohamed Abdulzaher, that term is a new term in the Media whose features are beginning to appear as a product of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.

Dr. Suzan added: “Egyptian soft power is a role model, especially in the current period, as we see many successes and achievements of Egyptian diplomacy, on both Arab and international sides, and the media is an important partner in making these successes, beside enhancing the role of arts, literature, humanities and diplomacy in creating positive impact on Arab and international societies”.

Researcher and Media expert Mohamed Abdulzaher says that: “Today, we are witnessing the emergence of new technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), where 3D printing, Blockchain, Augmented Reality, and replacing man with robot in many careers, especially in Media. In the near future, we will see full newsrooms without human intervention. This is the new revolution, the Artificial Intelligence Journalism Revolution“.

Abdulzaher mentioned that:”This era will create many opportunities and challenges for Media industry makers’, as the industry will become primarily creative, and all traditional forms of media programs, media content or great production documentaries will vanich. Global spending on media production may shrink to more than 50% by 2030. Replacing the traditional journalism and citizen journalism with AI Journalism will contribute significantly in saving Media industry expenses, as well as the availability of satellites that transmit live broadcasts, even from homes, at the cheapest prices”.

Abdulzaher added: “The AI Journalism is the new revolution in Media industry. Just as the Media evolved from traditional printing in simple news bulletins in the early seventeenth century to magazines and newspapers at the turn of the 20th century, and the emergence of radio and television at the time, then the Third Industrial Revolution which accompanied with the emergence of citizen journalism, the growth of the international press and its ability to transfer events moment by moment with high accuracy”.

He added: “It won’t be strange when you find a whole news channel inside someone’s living room, he has 4 robots, moving them and produces great Media programmes at the dining table”.
