In Cooperation with Arab Data Journalists’ Network: British University in Egypt Discusses “Data Journalism and Artificial Intelligence”

Faculty of Communication and Mass Media, British University in Egypt, in cooperation with Arab Data Journalists’ Network, organizes its scientific conference entitled “Data Journalism in the Arab Newsrooms” during the period from 23 to 25 March.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hamad, President of the British University in Egypt, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shouman, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Mass Media at the University, will open the conference with effective local and international participation.

Prof. Mohamed Showman, Dean of Faculty of Communication and Mass Media, British University in Egypt, says: “The world is moving towards the use of open data in all fields, Which may benefit the development of the Media, and finding journalism sources based on the latest technology, more confident and faster reaching to the target audience”.

Prof. Showman added: “The Faculty is keen to keep pace with the latest developments in the journalism content industry and in the Media techniques. It is also an opportunity to build bridges between theoretical study, training and practical practices“.

Amr El-Eraqi, the co- founder of the Arab Data Journalists’ Network, adds that: “Over the last few years, the termData Journalismhas grown in the Arab Media arena, while it wasn’t matched with the production of more data journalism stories within our Arab institutions“.

 

 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Journalism

For the first time, Dr. Mohamed Abdulzaher will discuss the new term in Media “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Journalism”.

Dr. Abdulzaher has recently coined the termAI Journalismand has presented it in Media studies through several articles and scientific researches.

Dr. Abdulzaher says: “Artificial intelligence (AI) journalism is the coming Media revolution, where we witness new structure of Media, and its depending on the techniques of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) which will play a great role in shaping the concept of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Journalism. AI Journalism does not rely solely onRobotwhich is a materialistic tool of different tools of Artificial Intelligence Journalism, while there are many other technologies that will be provided by 4IR, such as: Mobile Devices, IOF Platforms, Location detection technologies, Advanced human-machine interfaces, 3D printing, Smart sensors, Blockchain and many other tools“.

About 300 journalists, academics, researchers, professors and Media students in Egypt and a number of international experts and leading figures in the field of data journalism will participate in the conference.
