The next three tournaments on the published Ladies European Tour (LET) 2020 schedule are all set to take place in the Middle East, according to khaleejtimes.
This region will be the centre of attention for ladies’ professional golf throughout the month of November.
The ?260,000 Omega Moonlight Classic to be held 4th-6th November on the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, will be followed by the two recently announced LET events in Saudi Arabia, both hosted at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City; the Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by Public Investment Fund, 12th-15th November followed by The Saudi Ladies Team International, 17th-19th November.
These two first time LET golf tournaments in Saudi, the former postponed due to Covid-19 from its original date in March 2020, reinforce the ambitious plans for Golf Saudi and the Saudi Golf Federation for the game of golf in Saudi Arabia.
These professional ladies’ tournaments will help continue to drive the development of golf in Saudi and are an integral part of the ‘Five Pillars’ of Golf Saudi’s vision – access and infrastructure, academies, mass participation, events and tourism.
This follows on from the Saudi International European Tour events now firmly established on the international golfing calendar, boasting strong international fields with worthy champions in Dustin Johnson (2019) and Graeme McDowell (2020).
Just as impressive as the tournament announcements are the prizefunds of the two new LET events, $1 million for the former and $500,000 for the latter.
The $1 million prizefund will be the third highest of the season on the truncated 2020 LET season following the AIG Women’s Open ($4.5 million) and the Aberdeen Scottish Investments Ladies Scottish Open (($1.5 million).
108 professional players will compete in the first week in a traditional four-day 72 hole format with player entries expected to be announced shortly.
The first of its kind Saudi Ladies’ Team International will feature 36 teams of four players competing for both individual and team prizemoney, with teams selected via a draft-style process, taking place the week before the tournament.
It would be great to see crowds able to access these Middle East LET events, along with the much valued and the much enjoyed Pro-Ams, Corporate Hospitality, sponsor participation and activation as well as spectator and player engagement to create that all important tournament feel and buzz, on the ground at the golf course venue as well as wider afield as it resonates through to TV and other media channels.
