Distinctive Participation of 5000 Male & Female Students in the Various Competitions of the 3rd Dubai Schools Games Tournament

The various competitions of the 3rd edition of Dubai Schools Games, the biggest of its kind in Dubai, continue with participation of 5000 male & female students from 220 schools who compete in 22 sports competitions.

The Tournament is organized by ESM Co. in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council & under the sponsorship of LIV Digital of the Emirates NBD, and it is scheduled to be concluded on 24th June 2023.

The football competition is scheduled from 16th to 26th Jan., while the cricket competition will be held on 31st Jan. & 1st Feb. and the athletics competition will be launched on 20th & 21st Feb. 2023.

The rugby competition will be organized from 27th Feb. to 2nd March. The U 13 & U 15 netball competitions are scheduled from 6th to 9th March, while the cycling competition will be launched on 11th March and the tennis competition to be held from 14th to 16th March.

The chess competition took place at Dubai Chess & Culture Club with participation of students from 21 schools, who competed in six categories; these were: U 9, U 11, U 13, U 15, U 17 & U 19. In U 9 category, Goyal from GEMS World Academy won 1st place, while her colleague in the same school Bahatt secured the 1st place of U 11 category. Gina from the Indian School secured 1st place in U 13 category, while Vijay Virginia from Safeer School topped the U 15 category and Kathuria from the GEMS Modern Academy came 1st in U 17 & U 19 categories.

The bow & arrow competition was held at Dubai Club for People of Determination with remarkable participation of several students who competed in 3 categories; these were U 12, U 15 & U 18. Amina Kamil from Dubai Kings School won 1st place in U 12 category for girls with 444 points, while Vedas Kirit Somasi of the Millennium School came 1st in U 12 category for boys with 557 points. In U 15 category for girls, Latifa Fikri from Al-Mawakib School – Barsha secured the 1st place with 497 points, while Ali Hussain from Delhi Private School topped the U 15 category for boys with 467 points. Maryam Al-Saygh of Al-Mawakib School – Barsha won 1st place in U 18 category with 543 points.

The netball competition was held with participation of 480 female students from 14 schools, classified into 48 teams, who competed in U 8, U 9, U 10 & U 11 categories. The rhythmic gymnastics competition took place at Dubai National School with participation of 60 female students from 31 schools who classified into U 8, U 9, U 10, U 11, U 12, U 13 & U 14 categories and competed in the ball, hoop, ribbon & free hand.

Participants in the 3rd edition of Dubai Schools Games compete in 22 sports competitions; these are:  football, volleyball, basketball, rhythmic Gymnastics, golf, people of determination games, tennis, swimming, cycling, badminton, indoor cricket, outdoor cricket, padel tennis, gymnastics, chess, remote chess, esports, bow & arrow, athletics, netball, rugby & teachers’ competition.

The Tournament provides opportunity for the huge numbers of male & female students to participate in the sports competitions, as participation in this Tournament is free for all schools and students of multi-nationalities, different levels & categories and various ages from 9 to 19 years old. Talents scouting program is implemented in all sports competitions. Representatives from Dubai clubs attend the competitions to scout promising talents and to follow their performance & progress.  The Tournament provides unique opportunity for all school students to show their talents & sports abilities. Sports file has been created for each player who participate in the Tournament, so that he can utilize this file when he moves to the university stage or when he joins a sports club in the future.

The Tournament is organized as part of DSC’s efforts to develop sport in the school sector, confirming the eminent role of schools to boost the sports movement in the State, since schools are considered as the solid base of the sports pyramid, from where promising talents are scouted to support clubs and national teams to win titles and attain international achievements. School sports competitions are the preliminary step in scouting & boosting sports talents before moving to join clubs.
