On 23 August 2017, on the sidelines of their official visit to the Vietnamese capital “Hanoi”, the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Dr. Sahar Nasr and Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Vice-Admiral Mohab Mamish met with the Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung.
The Vietnamese Minister welcomed Dr. Nasr and Adm. Mamish in their visit to Hanoi, highlighting Egyptian-Vietnamese historic relations. Within this framework, Dr. Nasr emphasized the importance of enhancing investment cooperation between both countries and encouraging the establishment of joint ventures between the private sectors in Egypt and Vietnam.
Dr. Nasr further asserted that Egypt welcomed Vietnamese investors, calling for increasing the number of Vietnamese companies in Egypt.
Both sides agreed on signing MOUs in the fields of investment and stock exchange, besides holding the Egyptian- Vietnamese Business Council soon.
On his part, Adm. Mamish gave an overview of investment opportunities in the Suez Canal, noting that opportunities were available for the Vietnamese side to invest in several fields where they are experienced such as fish farming, shipbuilding and pharmaceuticals.
In addition, Dr. Nasr and Adm. Mamish met with the Vietnamese Minister of Transport Mr. Truong Quang Naghia, where the officials discussed cooperation in the field of ports and also tackled benefiting from the Vietnamese extensive experience in the field.
Both sides agreed on signing 3 MOUs between the SCZone and the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport for cooperation in the ports field.
Afterwards, Dr. Nasr and Adm. Mamish also met with Vietnamese Deputy-Minister of Industry and Trade Kuk Hang, where Dr. Nasr emphasized the importance of the joint meeting which had not been held since 2008. She also commended agreements reached during the 5th Egyptian- Vietnamese Joint Committee, especially in the fields of investment, fish farming, culture and tourism.
As for the Vietnamese Minister, he expressed his country’s keenness on establishing investment projects in the fish farming field, which was welcomed by Adm. Mamish who ascertained that the SCZone would facilitate all procedures for Vietnamese investors in coordination with MIIC.
Before heading to Singapore, Dr. Nasr and Adm. Mamish visited the investment zone in Hanoi, where they were briefed on the Singaporean experience in establishing an investment zone abroad.
The Vietnamese state television held a dialogue with Dr. Nasr during her visit to Vietnamese, where she commended Egyptian- Vietnamese relations, emphasizing that the new Investment Law provided investors with several incentives and guarantees and that Vietnamese investors can benefit from such advantages.
